Product Variants and Inventory Management

Melody Jaimon • February 9, 2023

This applies only to native stores.

Product variations are combinations of different product option values.

For example, suppose you sell a shirt with two options: size (with values of small or medium) and colour (with values of blue or red). The variants of these are:

  • Small, blue
  • Small, red
  • Medium, blue
  • Medium, red

The native store allows for up to 8 variants per product. For example, the 8 variations can be created using 2 choices with 3 values, or 3 options with 2 values each. Contact your administrator if you need to create more than 8 variants per product.

Manage Variants

Before editing the variants, all options must be added. If you add a new option after modifying variations, it will overwrite all the edits you have. See Product Options for more information on how to add or update options.

To manage variations:

  1. Click eCommerce on the side panel.
  2. Under Store Management, click Manage Products.
  3. Scroll down to the Manage Variants section after opening the desired product.
  4. Click Manage Variants.
  5. As needed, modify the following fields:
  • Image. Click to upload an image of this particular variation.
  • Variant type. The combination of options. Editing is not possible.
  • Variant price. The product’s base price. Editing is not possible.
  • Price difference. The amount by which the price needs to increase or decrease from the base price. For example, if the base price is $40 and this variation costs $45, enter +5 in the Price difference section. If the variation price was $35, you’d enter -5.
  • Inventory. You can enter inventory in this field if the Track Inventory toggle is enabled.
  • SKU. The SKU is inherited from the main product, but you can change it if required.
  • On/Off. To make the variation unavailable, toggle to the Off position.
  • Click Apply.

Inventory

To manage inventory:

  1. Click eCommerce on the side panel.
  2. Then, under Store Management, select Manage Products.
  3. Scroll down to the Inventory area after clicking to access the chosen product.
  4. Keep the Track Inventory toggle in the Off position to manually manage inventory at the product level. Select product status from the Status drop-down and enter a value in the SKU field.
  5. Set the Track Inventory toggle to the On position to manage and automatically track inventory at the variant level. On the Manage Variant screen, you will be able to manage inventory.
  6. Click Save.
