Developer Mode
Developer Mode allows you to edit and change your site's HTML and CSS. Adding custom code enables sophisticated customisation that the drag and drop editor does not allow for, however, this should only be done by expert users who have a firm grasp of web development code.
Custom code that will be shown on the site should be introduced with an HTML widget. Custom code that is not required should be placed in the header. In general, before adding code to your site, always follow the instructions supplied by the code's author.
To enter Developer Mode:
- In the menu bar, click the Developer Mode button. Alternatively, right-click a widget and select Edit HTML/CSS, followed by Dev Mode in the lower left corner.
- Then go ahead and make your changes. To examine your work, use the Save and Preview buttons.
- And acquire the URL of an existing picture, click Get Image URL, or upload a new image in developer mode to put it straight into the HTML.
Notes
- Make certain that you remain within the columns. Our responsive web pages use a row-column layout. This implies that each row has columns that eventually store the information. When adding or changing your HTML, ensure that it is contained within a column.
- Leave the courses alone. The editor is reliant on the numerous classes that are applied to components. If you notice an existing class (typically beginning with dm), leave it alone. When you delete classes, the Site may no longer seem the same when you preview it.
- Take note of the class sizes. Columns are assigned a size value as a class, such as large-6 or small-12. The size of the columns inside that row is determined by this. You should leave them alone because they form the foundation of scaling the row on different devices.
- If at all feasible, avoid editing extensions. You'll see placeholders for components on the page in the HTML. If possible, avoid changing them, particularly the data values contained within them. When you return to the Website Builder, editing them might cause the widgets to fail.
- When you enter Developer Mode, your Site is immediately backed up. Enter code only if you understand what it does, and backup frequently. We are unable to troubleshoot custom code.
Errors
- DUPLICATE_ID. Each element must have a distinct ID.
- INVALID_ELEMENT_LOCATION. All elements must be in a column that is in a row.
- BAD_PROPORTION. A row's columns must total up to 12.
- INVALID_CLASS_FOR_ELEMENT. An invalid element now has a Website Builder class.
