Backup Sites
Backups save images, files, and content—everything on the site except eCommerce data is saved.
Backups are copies of your site that you may preserve. Backups enable you to restore them at any moment. While our system creates backups automatically when a site is launched, it is advised that you create manual copies of your site on a regular basis rather than depending on the automated backup system in place.
Generally, it is recommended to create a backup:
- After you are satisfied with the appearance of your site.
- After you have accomplished a difficult task, you should reward yourself (such as importing several images, coding, and so on).
- Before adding any code or making big modifications to the site.
There is a storage limit of 50 automated backups and 50 manual backups. Because new manual backups overwrite previous ones, your first manual backup is deleted when you generate a new one. This is also true for automated backups; when a new one is created, the previous one is deleted. Automated backups are often deleted from the backup list because of how it is structured. If you want to keep an automated backup, what you need to do is restore and then make a manual backup from it.
Automated Backups
Backups are created automatically after:
- Republishing
- Adding or deleting the multi-language feature
- Restoring a backup
- Delete a site
- Getting into Developer Mode
- Website Reset
- Upgrading a store to the new layout available 1/27/2019
Create Manual Backups
- In the left panel, select Settings, then Backup Site.
- Enter the backup's New Version Name.
- Select
Save.
Restore From Backup
- In the left panel, select Settings, then Backup Site.
- Click the Restore link next to the desired backup to restore it.
- Enter the name of your backup.
Delete Backups
- Click Site Settings in the left panel, and then click Backup Site.
- To delete a backup, click the
Delete link next to the backup in question.
Blog Backups
When your site is backed up, your blog material is also backed up. If you restore a backup, the blog in the restored version of the site will be the one you restored. It should be noted that the restored version will not be visible until the restored site is published. As with any site backup, the run time and editor will seem different till then.
A post on a restored but unpublished version of the blog will not be visible until the restored site is published (unlike regular posts, which do not require the site to be published again for the post to go live).
When restoring a backup version, a new backup version is created automatically.
